Garance Doré: The Red Lip

Author: Garance Doré
I remember a long time ago, a red lip was part of my signature style.I was very proud of the fact that I could apply it in one go, even without a mirror.I loved it, it felt very French, easy, feminine and fresh. It worked so well with my short dark hair, and I loved pairing it with a white t-shirt and great pair of jeans. The shoes would do the rest of the work—a high heel, an easy flat or even a sneaker would give the tone to the day. Then one day, I let go of my red lip. It wanted to be less flashy and I suddenly felt like the red lip was another me. I tried to grow my hair very long. I tried on other sides of me to see if they fit. I got great lipglosses or fabulous balms such as ours. I focused on making up my eyes. Sometimes, I would find one of my red lipsticks in a drawer and look at it with a smile, as you do with a memory from the past. And recently, a new energy came to me. I decided to cut my hair. I bought a great white t-shirt, a fabulous pair of jeans… and a red lipstick. And this, ladies and gentlemen, takes us straight to the Doré philosophy.Because style, like beauty, is like a painter’s palette. Your eras will flow, your routines will evolve, but your essentials will stay forever. Sometimes, you’ll want to try something new, a different approach and you’ll use some of them a bit less, or mix and match. But when things are that good, you know you’ll eventually get back to them. And that they’ll be here when you’re ready, waiting for you, in all their perfect glory.G---Here are my favourite essentials right now:Jeans, Alex Mill The Bev Relaxed in Light WashT-shirt, Nili Lotan Marley TeeFlats, Co Pointed Ballerina FlatSneakers, Vans The AuthenticHigh heels, Manolo Blahnik BB Suede Pointed Toe PumpsLipstick, Tom Ford Ultra-Shine Lip ColorDoré Le Baume
