Garance Doré: The Botox Question
Author: Garance Doré
I am often asked about Botox.Do I do it?What do I think of it?Well, if you were my friend, I’d be honest, and you’re my friend, so let’s go for it.And let’s just say that, today, we will leave the questions about the ethics of aging naturally to the side.Botox is really awesome to prevent aging. I started it about ten years ago. I have never done it very regularly and I am quite conservative with it. With the years, my botox spots have changed. What it does:
- It helps lift my brows which have a tendency to droop without it.
- It helps with my symmetry. As we age some of our muscles get weaker, others stronger. One of my brows has a tendency to go up really high while the other is more static. A good practitioner will be able to compensate that and I believe it really helps with youthfulness.
- It’s wonderful for the furrow lines.
- As I have aged, the muscles in my neck and jawline have become really tense. This is now where I focus my Botox. It really helps smooth all of this out.
- I am incredibly careful with the crow’s feet and anything around the eyes. I’ve tried a few times and my eyes are too expressive—it completely changes my expressions and I hate it! I always have to tell my doctor to hold off, that I’d rather keep my wrinkles than look like a crazy person.
- I used to really space my Botox. Most women do it every six months, I would keep it to a year or more in order to “see my real face” —apparently it’s a French thing to do, a more “natural” approach. But now that I have aged, I think that I’ll keep a more regular schedule.
